Grow Cube is a free browser puzzle game by Eyezmaze where the order you place objects decides everything. Each click triggers chain reactions that build up a living, growing world on a plain cube. No download is needed. You can play it here at school or at work wherever browser games are allowed.
What is Grow Cube?
Grow Cube is a turn-based logic puzzle released by Eyezmaze in September 2005. You start with a bare cube and ten objects to place: water, fire, a bucket, seeds, a person, a coil, a ball, and a few more. The catch is that placement order changes how every object develops. Get the sequence right and the cube transforms into a small habitation with a garden, growing plants, and animated workers going about their day. Get it wrong and some objects stay stunted at a low level. The game is single-player, mouse only, and completely free.
Placing objects and how they level up
Each round you pick one object from the panel and click to place it on the cube. After all ten are placed the game tallies how each one developed based on what it found around it.
| Object | What it does when placed well |
|---|---|
| Water | Sustains workers and helps plants grow to full size |
| Seeds | Sprout into plants if water is available at the right level |
| Person | Builds structures; levels up faster when fire and water are both present |
| Fire | Powers coil-based machinery; interacts with the bucket |
| Coil | Generates energy that other objects can draw on |
| Ball | Rolls and activates certain physical interactions on the cube |
| Bucket | Collects water; level depends on when water was placed |
Controls
The entire game runs on a single mouse click. There is no keyboard input.
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Select an object | Left click on the object panel |
| Place the object | Left click on the cube face |
| Restart the round | Click the reset button on screen |
Tips for finding the right order
- Place water early. Most objects that involve growth or sustenance depend on water being at a high level before they are placed.
- Fire and coil tend to benefit from being placed after the person, not before. The person levels faster when an energy source is already running.
- Seeds placed too early may sprout before water is established and stay small. Try placing seeds after water but before the person reaches full level.
- After each failed run, note which objects are stuck at level one. That tells you which dependencies are unmet.
- There is one sequence that maxes out all ten objects. Reaching it takes experimentation, so treat each run as data.
Is Grow Cube free and can I play without a download?
Yes on both. Grow Cube runs entirely in the browser with no download or account required. The original 2005 version was a Flash game; the version available now runs in modern browsers without Flash. It works on desktop. The game is rated 4.8 out of 5 from over 1,200 votes.
